9 Geography
- Video
communication is a very effective...and sometimes quick...way of conveying
a message. A link is attached to three videos related to Global Connectedness
and your possible role in the world. The vidoes were produced by Grade
9 Geography students as "infomercials" for one component of
their culminating Independent Study Unit. Video 1 about Child
Mortality is on Face Book. Video 2 is the story of child soldiers
and child mothers in the 20+ year old war in Uganda. Video 3 is the
story of AIDS
in Africa. Video 3 was produced by an ESL student. It is presented
in its uneditted version so the story is the student's story. The grammar
may not be prefect, but the story's message is understandable. Video
3 will run in Media Player. PLEASE NOTE: These videos were prepared
by students as part of the Grade 9 Geography course. The videos do not
contain information or ideas that are supported or endorsed by Frontenac
Secondary School. The information, pictures and the music have not been
prepared or used for profit. The videos are presented for information
only.

Bettle Infestation in Western Canada. This information was prepared
by a Grade 9 Academic Geography student. The examplar is provided as
an example only.

- For Unit "State of the World", a Flash file is provided
describing the possible Implications
of Global Warming. The information in this clip may not be entirely
accurate, but it is an engaging and entertaining to watch...so enjoy.
The clip was created by two Grade 9 Academic Geography students in Fall
2008. This clip is provided only as an example. Technically, it is fun,
but due to its scientific and factual errors, it would be considered
Level 3 work. To run this clip, you must open the file in Flash, and
under the Control drop-down menu, click on Play.
- Examplar
- For Unit "Global Connections". As a class, we watch the
Afgahanistan movie "Osama" to the scene where she is discovered
by the Taliban pretending to be a boy. What happens next? Students must
write the ending "...they would like to see" for the movie.
This is a creative writing assignment, but it also shows the strength
of our Canadian values when observing other cultures and world differences.
This poem-ending was written in 2009 by an Academic Geography student.
It is called Ending
Osama.
